Radical Islam and Political Correctness:
Stop Bullying Now.
Here: definition of bullying,
the effects of physical bullying,
and why do people bully?
Layer after layer of bullying.
Right at the back are those ready to do violence in the name of Islam. We may call them jihadists, or terrorists, or misguided. We may say they're part of Islam, and call them radical Islamists.
It doesn't matter what we call them. They're dangerous. They're willing to kill in the name of Islam, carry out fatwas proclaimed by Muslim authorities (imams, etc).
There are 2 groups: those ready to do the violence, including kill themselves while murdering others. And there are the people teaching and sending out such people.
The threat, and sometimes reality, of violence are the foundation of the fear many people feel when they think of publicly voicing anything they see negative about Islam (honor killings, fatwas, sharia, etc.).
I call this menace bullying.
A definition of bullying (Wikipedia):
Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior manifested by the use of force or coercion to affect others, particularly when the behavior is habitual.... It can include verbal harassment, physical assault or coercion ...
Many have experienced exactly this: threats and aggressive behavior directed at people who speak out about radical Islam, about the content of the Qur'an, about Islamic beliefs. The most famous such person is Salman Rushdie. Others including American television host David Letterman and Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, who has had to cope with an axe attack plus constant security measures. There is an implicit threat to everyone: Watch out. You could be next.
For those of us in the West, menace from people within Islam is far from all we need to deal with.
In the front lines are the politically correct, whose weapons are words. Whatever we say will likely be twisted and distorted. We will also likely be called racist and Islamophobic if we say what we see (for example, if we quote passages from the Qur'an that call for death to infidels and those who leave Islam, or if we say that such passages are part of Islam in general, not just radical Islam).
I think of myself. All my life I've been against racism and other forms of oppression, including oppression on the basis of religion. Now suddenly I risk being called racist and Islamophobic!
Millions of people have been bullied into silence for fear of being tarred with these names.
The name calling makes no sense - except if one sees that a goal is bullying us into silence, and bullying others into being too afraid to listen to our message.
I think of, in the past, words like nigger lover and man hater being used, respectively, against whites who were against racism, and women who were for feminism. In both cases, people were not to listen to whoever was speaking, and the people who spoke against racism and for feminism often did so with caution, attempting to avoid setting off another volley of name-calling.
Why do people bully? It works. It's effective. Most people are easy to scare - especially those who are bystanders, those who witness the bullying (Wikipedia):
in most bullying incidents, bystanders usually do nothing. If the bully faces no obstruction from the people around, it gives permission to continue behaving badly.
It's more than that. In this case the target is not just the person is threatened or murdered. The target is everyone.
If we're bystanders, we are to be scared into silence.
If we're speaking out just a little, we are to become too afraid of the politically correct and of what is called radical Islam.
So
it's mainly the bystanders that I want to address.
Please help. Please speak up. Please join a community of people speaking out.
The more that people speak up, the more we can stop the bullying of the politically correct and of those parts of Islam (often termed radical Islam) that favor violence to achieve its goals.
I want to say, Stop bullying now. Just quit it.
The effects of bullying can be devastating (Wikipedia):
Those who have been the targets of bullying can suffer from long term emotional and behavioral problems.... In the long term it can lead to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ...
There's a problem with saying, Stop Bullying Now. One isn't likely to get listening.
Even when there's only one individual doing the bullying, as may happen at school, the solution is often not easy to find:
Kids can't stop bullying from happening all by themselves. They need help from parents, schools, communities and law enforcement officers. Everyone needs to work together in order to find solutions to this global problem. (Thinkquest, emphasis added)
With any bullying, especially with bullying on a massive scale, the situation isn't like with the emperor with no clothes. In that case, one child's speaking the truth made everyone acknowledge they too saw the emperor was naked. But the emperor wasn't a bully, threatening to kill anyone who admitted they saw things other than how he wanted them seen. He didn't even use name-calling to silence the child.
The solution, with bullying (repeated from above): Everyone needs to work together in order to find solutions to this global problem. Bullying - a global problem. Radical Islam - that is certainly global as well.
The more we connect with each other, the more we tell what we see, the more we are likely to create a powerful mirror to the politically correct, and perhaps even to those within radical Islam.
So please, join a such a community.
Please at least add your name here, and you will get more information on what is happening and what you could do.
There's stuff we can do as individuals, of course. I wrote Blowing Her Cover, Winds of Danger and My Name: Paul Revere.
Communities do more. I want to be part of a community that is ready to speak out against bullying - whether in school, at the workplace, from an organized religion, or from someone putting political correctness ahead of freedom of speech and thought.
So please add your name and email address to the list of those who are sick of intimidation, bullying, threats and violence used to attempt to silence those who just want to know and speak out about the truth about Islam, the Qur'an, the history of Islam, the ideology within the Qur'an, facts from the Qur'an and Islamic history.
Updates will be coming to keep you connected.
